Incident Response Planning
Be prepared for the inevitable
Be prepared for the inevitable
Incident response planning is a preparation for an inevitable cybersecurity breach. It is a step-by-step plan to follow when your company is faced with a hack, virus, leak, or data kidnapping. The result is that employees are prepared and know what is expected of them. With a plan, your team responds like a well-oiled machine.
Everyone knows the form you fill out in a car accident. At the time of the accident, you are emotional, shocked, and confused. That is the worst possible moment to get a form in front of you. The same thing happens with a security breach. Everyone has experienced a security incident. But in full panic, it is difficult to make the right decisions. Incident response planning helps you prepare as much as possible in advance so that you remain calm during any crisis.
An incident response plan consists of flowcharts that help you navigate through an incident. Each type of breach has its own information sheet. Each sheet contains who to notify, what information to gather, and what steps to take to get the situation under control as quickly as possible. With the help of escalation flows, incident checklists, and emergency numbers, it is easy to do the right thing immediately. This way, you are prepared for everything.
This is how we proceed in creating an incident response plan
First, we sit down with your IT team and map out all possible incidents.
Then, we write down who needs to be notified and what actions need to be taken for each incident.
Finally, we create a clear step-by-step plan so that all employees know their roles and responsibilities.
If desired, we organize exercises and simulations to evaluate and adjust the plan.
In addition to creating an incident response plan, we can also provide additional exercises. A table-top exercise is a crisis situation that you play out. With this role-play, you see how your team reacts in a particular situation. You do this exercise at the beginning of an improvement process to get an idea of the current situation. Or you do it at the end of the project to measure the improved response speed of team members.
